Note that some staples held the two transom beams together. We are going to use stainless screws. The transom is made up of 2 pieces of 2/3 inch plywood. We used, instead, 2 pieces of 5/8 inch plywood and a third layer of ¼ inch plywood. This gave us extra layers to laminate with more fiberglass. Note that there is no fiberglass between the two layers of ¾ inch plywood. When we rebuilt it, we used fiberglass between each layer of wood for added strength, and to prevent water that might infiltrate one transom beam from getting into the beam next to it.
